Grocery shopping not just about the groceries

With the grocery store "rewards" cards for the major grocers, it's not just about the groceries anymore. Add the fact that the big grocers of Kroger and Tom Thumb have apps, it makes it even easier to learn about or get deals.

A few months or more ago, I moved from one side of the neighborhood to the other...basically about a mile across town.

The previous side was closer to Kroger so I shopped there more for my groceries with my Kroger Plus card. Originally, the Kroger Plus card gave gas points that I could use at the pump depending on how much I spent. It only worked at the gas stations that were Kroger gas stations. The Kroger I shopped at has a gas station in the parking lot but it is a Chevron. So, these gas points were useless to me except for when I drive through Euless, TX which is the only place where I know a Kroger with a Kroger gas station exists and is in my paths of mostly traveled. A couple of years ago Kroger teamed up with Shell to provide these points and so the same gas benefit was now available. Good since there is a Shell a few blocks from the Kroger. I grocery shopped at Kroger a lot for this "benefit" as well as they were the only close grocery store that had self-check out registers.

My current side of the neighborhood is closer (very close) to a Tom Thumb where I use my Rewards Club card for groceries. This store is much smaller than the Kroger where I used to shop and it doesn't have self-check out. The convenient location is great but the selection isn't always for what I'm looking. I occasionally have to drive to another Tom Thumb which is a few blocks or so down from the Kroger I used to frequent. Anyway, I always use my Rewards card when shopping at Tom Thumb because it gives me really good BOGO deals or cheaply-priced items that I frequently purchase.

A little sidebar—I sometimes, but rarely lately, shop at Albertsons because each store has their own good pricing on certain items I like and Albertsons has had many a good deal, on meats particularly. Although Albertsons no longer uses a rewards card (marketing ploy), they do have some very good deals once in a while. However, Albertsons is far from either side of the neighborhoods I've lived.

I mentioned it before that one of the perks of the rewards cards is gas points. Since I've been shopping at Tom Thumb, I've earned some fuel points here and there. Recently, I earned $1.70 off my price per gallon at the Tom Thumb gas pump. The price on the receipt below shows $2.09/gallon. The price before using my fuel points was $3.79/gallon. That shit's unheard of!

So I guess the point of the post is use your grocery rewards cards, especially if it's for a Kroger or Tom Thumb.

Two brushes with stupidity in one day

My Saturday experiences with stupid cyclists in Dallas within an hour of each other:

First on Harvard Avenue at the Katy Trail: Two cyclists traveling at least 25 mph are about 75 ft from the crosswalk. I'm about 20 ft going about 15 mph. I am halfway across the crosswalk as they have to slow down and wait for me to cross. One cyclist puts his hands in the air like "WTF?" Apparently the cyclist doesn't know the law of the crosswalk which reads, "Yield to those WITHIN the crosswalk." It doesn't say, "Yield to those approaching the crosswalk." These cyclist didn't want to slow their roll and so I must be the dick and not them. Idiots!

Second, Southwestern Blvd at Airline Rd: Two cyclists traveling north on Airline Rd. I'm traveling east on Southwestern Blvd. I get to the stop light/sign before them. As I start to go, they acted like they were going to ride through the stop light/sign. They slammed on their brakes and wobbled a bit and were like dumbfounded that I didn't yield to them. So, cyclists want to have the same rights as vehicles but they don't want to obey the vehicle laws. Idiots!

I know this isn't ALL cyclists behaviors and attitudes but it seems to be the majority of the ones I have come across. They are an arrogant pack of dip shits that would much rather be arrogant than safe. Right or wrong is not the point when they are willing to risk their life because who is going to win the collision? I don't think the vehicle will be the worst off.

Idiots!

How stupid are Texas drivers?

From a WFAA traffic/weather blog:
8:19 a.m.: Dallas Fire-Rescue has reported that as of 7:20 a.m., they have responded to 72 vehicle accidents since midnight.
Yes, it is icy in parts out there but people are still driving like bats out of hell!

On the way to drop the kids off at school (which is less than a mile away), some man almost ran through a stop sign that Ts into the street I was on. He then had the audacity to honk at me while I was sitting in the far right lane at a light because he wanted to turn right onto the service road whereas I was going straight. I'm sure he'll cause or have an accident but if it was legal for me to snap a few rounds in his ass when he honked at me, I could have prevented further issue from him with someone else.

I'm just saying...

Stupid drivers post #10

Do stupid drivers really think that the more they ease forward at a traffic light the faster the light will change?

There is a reason they paint this really wide white line. It's called "The Stop Here Dumb Fucker" line! And most lights have this crazy knack of usually changing quicker when you are ON this line versus behind it or over it. Sometimes it really doesn't matter but the light definitely doesn't change faster the more you ease over and beyond the line.

In fact, you look more like a dip shit for easing forward instead of just waiting for the light to change! Especially you clinically fucked up drivers that ease so far beyond that you are 1/4 the way into the intersection!

If you reflect upon how stupid you are or were, you'll maybe realize that the extra few inches (feet in some cases) didn't help you get to your destination any quicker.

It did make some random person waste his precious time posting about your dumb ass and you are never going to know. But it made me feel better letting the world know of your stupidity and hopefully learn from it. It's a down right dirty shame I don't have a picture of you or your vehicle. I think I'd exceed the Internet's bandwith with pics of ALL the stupid drivers.

Quote: "I was only inside for a few minutes..."

This is a few days late but I'm okay with that...

From the Star-Telegram
Arlington woman’s parking mistake costs her $640

Click here while the link lasts

All I have to say to this woman is, "Shut the wholly fuck up, stupid ass bitch!"

Pardon my French but stupid, ignorant people like this make me want to hit them with a bat multiple times. I'll tell them to stand up and then proceed to beat them down again. They'll continue to stand and I'll continue to beat them. That's how stupid they are!

Parking illegally is illegal no matter how long you are doing it. Would you stop your car in the fast lane of the highway because you wanted to make a quick call on your cell phone? Hell no! I mean it's thoughtful but it's dumb and ILLEGAL!

So, now this stupid woman is probably putting out more money to fight the ticket. That shows even more how smart this dumb woman is! Oh, and the article says that she was just going inside to see how long it would take to pay her daughter's fine. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

I guess one thing is good about her hiring an attorney to fight the fine. She wants to "raise awareness." Good, people should know how much they are going to pay when they get busted for doing something illegal even if it's not seemingly as bad as "driving drunk or speeding in a school zone."

Geez, the rationale of this woman! I'd be embarrassed if she were my parent!

Lone Star Shipping Company

I had to drop off a package at an "authorized UPS shipping location" yesterday morning. I finally got around to getting a new return shipping label to send back the damage Nook I received a couple of weeks ago. I've been busy and the original label expired.

Anyway, I called this weekend and got a new one emailed to me. I promptly printed ad taped to the box with the damage Nook. I meant to mail it Tuesday but I got the closing times mixed up on this one store. It closed at 6pm instead of 9pm.

So, I found another location that's actually on my way to work. It said it opened at 8am whereas some other locations didn't open until 9am. This earlier time would work out better for me.

The name of this place is called The Lone Star Shipping Company (Google map location here). As you can see on the home page in big bold letters, it says, "Store Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 to 6:00."

They lie!

I got there a little earlier than expected. It was about 7:50am. I waited outside in my vehicle until 8am. Nobody opened the doors. 8:10am. Still nobody opens the doors. 8:15am. A light comes on inside the building. 8:22am. The man opens the front door.

I walk into the place and he says, "What can I do for you?"

I felt like railing into him about how 8am means 8am, not fucking 8:22am! But I didn't.

I merely said, "I have a UPS return package I need to have sent."

He said, "I'll take it. And you're done!"

I said, "That's it?"

He said, "Yep!"

I felt like saying, "I fucking waited for almost thirty minutes for a barely two-second exchange?" But I didn't. I just said, "Thanks," and went on my merry way.

But I release my frustration here and tell you to not visit this location at 8am if you happen to be in the area and need to ship something.

I just don't understand the point of posting an opening time if you aren't going to adhere to it!

North Main BBQ in Euless, TX

I decided it was time to hit the BBQ place on my way back home from tennis.

I figured that a "value meal" at a fast food restaurant would be $6-$7 or more and North Main BBQ (map) is $12 for all-u-can-eat. So, the executive decision was made.

Ribs, pulled pork and juicy sliced beef! A well made decision!

How many times can I say that people are stupid?

This morning the wife and I were taking the kids to school and these pigeons were in the middle of the road. I didn't see anything but maybe there was something they were all pecking at for feeding on or whatever. There were probably about 15-20 of them.

Anyway, we're driving along and the car in front of us a mini-SUV type vehicle slams on its brakes. I was like WTF!? I then see all these pigeons slowly make their way airborne. The moment that vehicle passes they land in back of it and in front of us. My wife started to brake and I almost let a remark out but I didn't. It was just kind of a soft grunt. I think she got the picture and kept driving.

I just don't know why the hell ANYONE would brake for pigeons (squirrels or any small rodent-type animal) in the road. Let's see: 15 pigeons = approx 10 lbs versus SUV = 4,000 lbs+. Who the fuck is going to win that battle!?

Okay, so maybe some people want to preserve the life of the parasites of the world. I get it but if they are going to risk getting hit from behind to keep from killing an ignorant fucking animal that stays in the middle of the road until the last possible moment because it doesn't want to give up the road kill but will probably become road kill itself is just plain stupid!

Highway wreckage

I was driving home from tennis and traffic started to build up. I was thinking WTF but it didn't come to a halt. It was just very slow for about seven minutes. Nearer the seventh minute I came upon this on the right-hand side of the highway. It was on the upper level of the service road/DFW Airport exit. Good thing I brought my spiffy Canon Rebel XT!

Moving day out of the "Gardens"

These are pictures of our old condo/apartment as seen the day of move-out.
