M1 Carbine

This is an M1 Carbine. For reference, it's the gun that Tom Sizemore's character carries in the movie Saving Private Ryan. Not to be mistaken for the M1 Garand which is what I kept doing when my buddy was talking to me about it.

So, my buddy had the M1 Carbine in Pennsylvania where he grew up. I don't know how he came into possession of this historical weapon but it's pretty cool.

I guess I should feel honored that he trusts me with it because a couple of weekends ago he lent it to me to take to the ranch, aka friend's 9,000 acres, to shoot. I haven't gone yet but he figured I'd get a chance to shoot it before he would. I'm looking forward to shooting it when I get some time to visit the ranch. It's about an hour and a half drive towards east Texas.

The gun is actually kind of cool to hold. It's solid wood which is weird compared to my .308 which has a polymer frame. The wood is in surprisingly good shape for a 60-yr-old rifle. The rounds are .30 but I think he said they are of a special kind not found at the local 7-11. He gave me a box of like 10-15 rounds but I'm going to see what I can locate because I think it might be a pretty fun rifle to shoot...depending on the price of the ammo. The box he gave me had two price stickers. One before the Obama tax increase scare and one after. I don't recall the exact pricing but the difference was in the neighborhood of $15-$20 more after the score. Crazy!

Anyway, I'll see if I get to shoot the rifle in the next week or so and I'll try to post about it because I know there are so many of you out there reading my posts AND care about guns.

Jonesing for another hand gun

I'm thinking about purchasing another pistol for the small, very small, one, collection of mine. I really want to stick with the 9MM ammunition size. That way I don't have to buy more than one size. I already have my 9MM Beretta so matching ammo for the new one would be perfecto.

I've looked at a few sites for critiques and such but have only looked at Academy Sports and Outdoors for pricing, for now. I prefer a local versus Internet dealer so I can actually go touch and feel the piece as well as not feel like I'm going to get suckered from an online purchase. Besides, I know how much paper work I'd have to fill out and I really don't know how that would be done via the Internet. I'm an immediate gratification kind of guy when it comes to my "toys" so purchasing and waiting for an online product is not my ideal plan.

These are the pistolas I have taken a gander at: a Taurus PT-92 for $429.99, a Taurus 24/7 9MM SS for $379.99, and a Smith & Wesson Sigma 9MM for $319.99 at Academy Sports with their photos in respective order below.

I really like the look of the Taurus PT-92. It's modeled after the Beretta and it is a body style I really like. It has smooth lines compared to the others. I did read that the gun shoots well as is said the same for the 24/7 SS. The S&W Sigma 9MM was rated pretty highly by a few gun "experts" but it doesn't look as "pretty" to me as the other two. The Sigma and the 24/7 are rated better for concealed but it's a mute for point for me right now as I don't have my CHL just yet. I'm planning on getting it but it cost a good chunk of change and I really don't know how comfortable the wife and/or kids would be if they knew Daddy was carrying the heat.

Anyway, these will probably be shelved as "things Jay wants but probably won't get for some time" along with my PS3 Slim, Pontoon and/or Waverunner, and other things.

Ah, to win the Texas Lotto...but I'd have to actually play, huh!?

Beretta Elite II CO2 Airgun Pistol

As the post title states, this is the Beretta Elite II CO2 Airgun Pistol. You can find it here at Sports Authority. If the link expires, go to the Sports Authority web site and either search this item number (3257517) or CO2 air pistol and select the Beretta brand link.

I purchased this about a week ago at the brick and mortar store down the street. I actually paid $54.99 + tax. I picked up a box of sixteen CO2 canisters. I thought I had a box of or quite a few BBs at home but I was mistaken. I just had about thirty inside the chamber of my Daisy BB/Pellet rifle. I'll be making another run soon to get the BBs for more fun.

I mainly purchased this for tagging the gosh darn squirrels in my backyard. The little bastards keep dropping pecans, leaves and just all kinds of shit upon my back driveway and occasionally on my vehicles when I park them back there. I've had a few opportunities to tag the little bastards but I'm not sure if it's my inaccuracy or the gun isn't powerful enough to penetrate the hide. I think I'm hitting them and they just have a tough hide. I sort of know this when I have hit them in the past in previous yards with my ten-pump rifle. The BBs are very penetrating but the pellets (in the rifle) usually did a good job.

I guess I don't really care to kill them (or do I). I'm just hoping that if I at least keep hitting them it will scare them away. If not, I will look into reloading the rifle and making the bastards bleed.

The cool, and dangerous, thing about this gun is that it looks EXACTLY like a real 9mm Beretta...my real 9mm Beretta. There are some subtle and obvious differences upon closer inspection but I wouldn't recommend pulling this out in front of anybody, especially a cop. You may not live to tell about it!

Anyway, next thing to purchase/refill, is my paintball gun...well, my nephew's paintball gun but since we no longer talk and I have it in my possession still, I guess it IS my paintball gun. I got to get some air put into the CO2 canister I have and get some paintballs. I bet that will make the squirrels think about coming around these here parts again! That is as soon as I find out which freaking rubber maid bin it is stored in in my garage.

I hate telemarketing calls

I'm wondering how they got my cell phone number. There was no list of cell numbers given out like the spam email suggests. You can check to be sure at Snopes.

Anyway, here is the number that called my cell number today: 228-209-9560. I didn't answer but they did leave a recorded voice mail. I guess luckily for me it didn't record the whole message. I just got "Press 1 otherwise press 2 to be removed from this list." What list? I don't know. I don't even know what they wanted since I just got the end of the recording.

After a quick Google (see my search here), it seems it truly is a scammer/telemarketer. I just don't know how they got my cell phone number. I don't get a lot of sales calls to my cell number. Mainly I get repeated sales (badgering) calls from Sprint, which is my provider, asking me if I want something new or some b.s. like that.

Don't any of these fuckers know that if I wanted something, I'd fucking call THEM!? I wish I could find each and everyone of them and place a few 9MMs in them: one in their dialing hand and the other square in the center of the forehead! Bitches!

Ruger .22 Mark III Hunter

A coworker of mine just purchased this beauty today from TargetMaster off Jupiter Road in Dallas, Texas.

It's a nice plinkster and the ammo is very cheap compared to larger rounds. It makes unloading round after round just pure enjoyment. It may not outright stop/kill an intruder but it will make unloading the ten-round clip into then a joy!

We shot it at the range in TargetMaster and it was fun fun! I would buy this if I had disposable income but I'm on a semi-fixed budget. Plunking down $500 on this would make the wife think about using it...on me!
