I'm as soft as bruised fruit...NOT!

This past weekend the kids and the neighbor kids decided to invite me to play some "football" in the open lot on the street that just happens to be next to our house.

It's been a while since I hung out with all the kids and thrown the ball or played "football." I quote football because the ages range from 4 to 13 years old. It's a modified version as all yard games are but it's still fun for the kiddos.

About fifteen minutes in, I was running to two-below one of the older kids and the unexpected happened. I ran to a section of the lot where there just happened to be a cut down small tree or big bush root protruding from the ground, hidden among mowed iris plants. I nailed this root with the right foot at a pretty decent pace. I kicked it so hard that I uprooted it and it shot out in front of me before I took a small flight from where the impact occurred to the cement driveway of the neighbors house. I landed on my right shoulder as well as braced (somewhat) my fall with the left hand. This is the wound, slightly healed that I got from a stick jabbing me in the palm of my hand. Good times.

Anyway, it was funny but painful. I will see if I can find the culprit root and take a picture of it. Just because if I can, I can.

Kids say the darnedest things

I was talking to my kids about how I met their mother. I'm such a sap that I remember it vividly.

We got into the "sometimes people put on weight over the years, blah, blah, blah" part of the conversation. I made comments like, "Your Daddy has always been cute," "The girls had always liked the looks of your Dad," and the like. I mentioned that even though I'm heavier than I was in high school (I'm not fat...I'm pudgy! Assholes!) the girls still occasionally shoot me a glance. It must be my overwhelmingly striking inner beauty. Anyway...

My oldest says, "Yeah, you are a cute guy Dad, like a bald panda." WTF? The follow-up was, "You know how pandas are cute looking and you just want to squeeze them but you don't have all that hair like they do. So, you are cute like a bald panda."

I guess it could have been worse.

My own little "priceless" commercial

An adult and two children buffets with sodas at Cici's$15.76
Three attempts to get the exact prize the kids want without success$1.50
My children being disappointed but mature enough to realize that something is better than nothingPriceless!

Personally, I think the prizes they did receive are actually cooler than a sticky hand/creature. Check 'em out!

Kids say the darnedest things

Yesterday evening I came home from playing tennis in this wonderful Texas weather. As I'm taking off my soaking wet shirt to cool down in front of the fan, my youngest points to my love handles and asks me, "Daddy, why is your skin falling out of your shorts?"

Now that's some funny shit! Somewhat depressing but funny!

Kids and their drawings

My oldest (8-yr-old) made this drawing for me and I scanned it to my computer.
