This is one of the dumbest things ever

If you want to meet the President and you are a black man, cry racial profiling! I think the professor, Obama's friend, was a little pissed that his buddy hadn't had him over for dinner since he's run for the presidency.

Now, don't you non-White people get your panties in a wad. I'm half White and half Hawaiian which makes me look Mexican. I've had my own run-ins with assumptions from White police officers as well as Black and Mexican. Everyone assumes I'm Mexican and treat you like the stereotype of a Mexican. It sucks. It's a part of my life. The way I feel about it is as long as I'm clean as a whistle, they do not have a leg to stand on when it comes to accusations or ignorant assumptions. I'm not smart alecky with them. I'm courteous whether they are or not. Luckily for me, nothing has ever escalated which led to an arrest or even close.

I do believe most cops are corrupt because of what I read, hear, and personally know. They are just like criminals. They think if they don't get caught (and they most likely won't because they are cops) then what harm is in occasionally accepting a bribe, treat, trick, or whatever. Who doesn't? Ever heard of Enron, Arthur Andersen, et al? It's sad but it's very hard to find a cop, someone, anyone you can truly trust.

Anyhow, it would be more of a White cop said versus Black dude said if there wasn't a third party (a Black cop) that supported the White cop's version then I would be way more leery of the goings on. I'm just more in the "I don't know what to think because I wasn't there" category. Which is where Obama should have been!

I know too many Black people that cry racism and threaten to sue if you look at them wrong. It's become an ace in the hole for them to keep from getting fired or to get hired. And not just Black but Mexican/Hispanic as well. Isn't it funny how you don't ever hear people crying racism for Asians, Asian-Pacific Islanders, Tongans, Somoans, etc? They aren't a "protected" ethnicity I guess.

UPDATE-2:11 p.m. 7/31/09: Anyway, I've lost my train of thought as I started this last night and had to postpone it until the next day. It may be a disjointed, incomplete thought. Sorry. I've moved on.

Cremation urns that look like your dead loved ones

Saw this over on the Boing Boing site. Why the hell would you want an urn that looks like the head of your deceased love one? It's just creepy.

It reminds me of when my mom asked one of my nieces to take pictures of my dad's funeral AND of my dad in the open casket. WTF?! Just freaking creepy!

This is worse than taxidermy but I bet taxidermy of humans is next and would just be even creepier.

Did I mention the word creepy, yet?

Replacement Blackberry

I had to get a replacement for my Blackberry Curve. The keyboard wouldn't work. Even though I could receive calls, emails and texts, I could not answer, read or reply to them.

Sprint store ordered a new one since they couldn't figure out the problem. That was last Friday. They said they'd call me when it came in, either Mon or Tue this week. They called me Monday to say it was in...on my cell number which I could not answer. And I took out the battery because the tone was left on "loud" so I couldn't know when they called anyway. That was the only dumb part on Sprint's part.

Anyway, I checked my vmail early Tuesday morn thinking they should have it by then. That's when I got their message. I went during my lunch and all was dandy.

It turns out that the restore function on the BB desktop software worked like a charm for my un-synced with Outlook numbers and contacts BUT it didn't restore the phone to "just like your current phone's status" as the customer service guy said. I had to re-download most of the applications I use or could remember previously downloading like FaceBook, GoogleTalk, Pocket Express and one or two others. That's not too big a deal except it is time consuming.

I had to reset my email on the Blackberry sight because it seems the specific phone is tied to the account you set up. That was loads of fun and no one tells you about this. Thank goodness for Google!

I did notice that the BB phone software seems to have been upgraded compared to my previous phone. The interface is slightly different, like the icons are different. Some of the software is different too, like FaceBook--which I don't particularly like, but I thought I had the latest of all the software I used. Shows what I really know.

Anyway, the new phone looks good (no scratches and such) and works pretty good too. The only thing I noticed so far is that the battery seems to lose charge quicker than before. It could be the new software (BB or any others)...I don't know. I doubt it is the battery as it wasn't a problem in my old phone.

Well, that's my "Sprint story" and it wasn't a negative one...for once!

Who can take a slapshot and not cry?

I CAN!

This is my belly after getting hit in the gut from a slapshot before my championship old-man's hockey game last week. To top it off, it was a slapshot from my teammate and he was supposed to shoot it at or near the net so I could tip it with my stick. Needless to say the no-aiming fool did not execute it well. It's a good thing that 1) I jumped otherwise it would probably have hit me in the chest and 2) that I didn't jump too high otherwise it would have hit square on the frank and beans! You can see that it was just below my belly button...the sort of black hole above the bruise. LOL!

Email humor 07/27/2009

The American Medical Association has weighed in on the new Obama healthcare package:

-The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

-The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

-The Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.

-Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

-Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, 'Oh, grow up!'

-The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.

-Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.

-The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter."

-The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed at the whole idea.

-The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

-In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to our finest assholes in Washington.

Watchmen (2009)

So, as mentioned in the previous post, I watched Watchmen and I must say, "I'm not impressed."

Now, I'm not a knowledgeable fan of the comic so I wasn't all giddy and excited to see it made into a movie. In fact, about halfway into the movie, I had to pause and Google the Watchmen to find out what it was about.

After reading the Wiki on it, I must say that I'm not impressed and the story line of the comic...and the movie...is a little bland. I assume it has a following similar to things like The Evil Dead and others that were "cult-like" after (sometimes years after) their original release.

It was almost like the majority of the movie was used to explain the background of the Watchmen and then, after two hours, it got a little more interesting. And the interest wasn't just when my hopes were fulfilled and Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman) showed her naked body while banging Night Owl II (Patrick Wilson) in the Archie. I truly made the painfulness of watching temporarily much better.

Spoiler Alert! I must say that I'm bummed that Dr. Manhattan killed, more like vaporized, Rorschach (who I recognized in the movie but at times looks like Danny Bonaduce) but left Ozymandias alive. The least Manhattan could have done was kept the secret, which is why he killed Rorschach AND kill Ozymandias for doing his insane plot to unite the world! I would have.

Anyway, in my totally objective opinion, the movie was more hype than substance. Maybe it was made this way to make way for sequels, I don't know. It seems to me that other comics did a better job of transitioning to movies. It may be because those movies weren't really used to explain the backgrounds of the heroes or they just did a better job with storyline and direction to integrate it better.

So, rent it if you want or are a fan. Otherwise, let it stay on the shelf.

Kelly Leak

Dude, I am watching Watchmen right now and they just unmasked Rorschach. I know. I know. It's not that big of deal but what I did realize is that the guy who plays Rorschach is none other than Kelly Leak from the Bad News Bears.

Not that I've been looking or watching but now that I see him, I wondered where the hell he fell off the map too. I remember him as Moocher in Breaking Away and some horn dog in Losin' It.

Anyway, that dude has changed but he still looks the same. Does that make sense? I guess he's just a lot older but he still looks like that crater-faced kid, Kelly.

Amazing Pong Beer Shots

This is obviously a guy's college dorm rooms and all they have time to do is perfect awesome ping pong ball shots into SOLO cups. Ah, to be young again!

Testing linking GIFs

I have an animated GIF that I wanted to upload but it seems that blogger no longer does this. I remember way back in the day when I started they did...because a few of my animated GIFs I uploaded thru blogger worked like they should...but now they come across as just regular, static, non-animated pictures which defeats the whole purpose.

Anyway, testing this one from TinyPic which I don't think requires actual sign up as I just uploaded a GIF and didn't have to fill out any registration form. Hope it works and if it does, for how long?

The Nun in Hooters

A nun, badly needing to use the restroom, walked into a local Hooters.

The place was hopping with music and loud conversation and every once in a while "the lights would turn off." Each time the lights would go out, the place would erupt into cheers.

However, when the revelers saw the nun, the room went dead silent. She walked up to the bartender, and asked, "May I please use the restroom?

The bartender replied, "OK, but I should warn you that there is a statue of a naked man in there wearing only a fig leaf."

"Well, in that case, I'll just look the other way," said the nun.

So the bartender showed the nun to the back of the restaurant. After a few minutes, she came back out, and the whole place stopped just long enough to give the nun a loud round of applause.

She went to the bartender and said, "Sir, I don't understand. Why did they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?"

"Well, now they know you're one of us," said the bartender,"Would you like a drink?"

"No thank you, but, I still don't understand," said the puzzled nun.

"You see," laughed the bartender, "every time someone lifts the fig leaf on that statue, the lights go out. Now, how about that drink?"

Twin Peaks

Just got home from Twin Peaks in Bedford. It's off Hwy 183 (Airport Frwy) between Central Drive and Forest Ridge Dr on the south side of the freeway.

It's a Hooter-esque type restaurant/bar with a lodgy theme like Paul Bunyun or the Brawny guy.

Some of my Tuesday tennis buds wanted to go after our league play. The food is pretty decent maybe even better than Hooters...more variety at the least.

Either the waitresses are getting younger or I'm getting older. I'd prefer the 1st.

Anyway, if you are ever in the area, it is worth a try.

Snuffer's Restaurant

I just got back into the office a little bit ago from going to lunch with my boss and co-boss at Snuffer's on Lower Greenville. Check the info here and here.

I love this place. It's good, down-home-death in a basket. Freakin' awesome! My bosses took me there for my birthday lunch since I wasn't here on Friday, my actual birth date.

I got the Swiss, mushroom burger. Cooked medium. It came out pretty red/pink but I don't care. I actually like it that way but my boss got the same burger and my co-boss got the cheddar burger and the medium was not cooked enough for them. It really wasn't medium compared to other restaurants because the patty is so thick.

Anyway, we also had a large side of cheese fries with chives and bacon bits. No jalapenos for this guy!

It was a good lunch meal. And for me, it was free since they paid. It made it a good day to return to work after two weeks of vacation!

Afterward, we walked across the street to Condom Sense. A friend and coworker of ours got "married" - too much to explain right now. The co-boss wanted to get him a sort of gag wedding gift and she thought she'd find it at Condom Sense. It's the first time I've been in one of these establishments and I don't think the bosses were the people to go there with but it's a good thing we are 'friends' and get along outside of work as well as at work.

Basically, it's a sex shop. It has DVDs, toys, props, lotions and anything else you might find at a true adult store. It doesn't have the huge selection of these items that may be at bigger and actual adult stores but, needless to say, it's an adult sex shop. I've seen some interesting things in my life and I've seen even more today.

We left without a gift but I did leave thinking that I could name at least half of the female porn stars whose images grace the various products. Scary!
